There are many reasons to donate to GRUCSO and many ways to donate too. Below are the suggested options; however, if you would prefer to give in a particular way or for a particular cause then please contact us to discuss further.
All of these costs have been calculated based on the US dollar / Tanzanian Shilling exchange rate on 21st Feb 2024.

Regular Donations
Our costs are ongoing and so the best way of ensuring our ability to maintain support for all of our children over the duration of their education is to be able to receive a guaranteed revenue stream through regular donations.
We would be delighted to receive regular donations of any size and these will go towards covering our ongoing educational costs. Here are some suggested donations and explanations of our costs.
For a regular donation of $29 (Tsh 72,500) per month we can provide for all the educational needs for a primary school student across the school year, including:
- Books and stationery $10 (Tsh 25,000) twice yearly
- 2 sets of school uniform $20 (Tsh 50,000) per year
- A pairs of school shoes $10 (Tsh 25,000) twice yearly
- Transport to/from school $6 (Tsh 15,000) per month
- Food (breakfast and lunch at school) $18 (Tsh 45,000) per month
A donation of $41 (Tsh 90,000) per month will support the same for a secondary school child:
- Books and stationery $14 (Tsh 35,000) twice yearly
- Two sets of school uniform $24 (Tsh 60,000) per year
- A pairs of school shoes $12 (Tsh 30,000) twice yearly
- Transport to/from school $6 (Tsh 15,000) per month
- Food (breakfast and lunch at school) $29 (Tsh 75,000) per month
Single Donations
We are very happy to receive any one-off donations and these will be used for our ongoing educational costs or for individual costs. Below are some of the items we need to spend money on to make sure our children are able to stay healthy and study effectively.
Medical support is vital for our beneficiaries. Medical care can be very expensive for Tanzanian families, so much so that many cannot afford to diagnose and treat common illnesses that are endemic to Tanzania. $20.34 (Tsh 41,000) will cover all the basic medical care for the most affecting diseases within the coverage of our care. This includes:
- Consultation $4 (Tsh 10,000)
- Malaria test $1.17 (Tsh 3,000)
- Blood test $4 (Tsh 10,000)
- Urine test $1.17 (Tsh 3,000)
- Medicine $10 (Tsh 25,000)
$30 (Tsh 75,000) will provide mental health counselling and life skills mentoring for a child in need of support. This will support the beneficiaries affected by potential abuse, stigma, parental ignorance and emotional and psychological support. This will pay for a trained psychologist or an entrepreneur skills specialist.
$200 (Tsh 509,000) will pay for building materials for construction of a hygienic modern toilet at the child’s house.
$250 (Tsh 625,000) will pay for solar panels in homes without access to affordable electricity to allow students to study in the evening and mornings. This will pay for the purchasing and installation of the solar panel, as well as ongoing maintenance.
Sponsorship
GRUCSO aims to enable specific students who are showing great effort and achievements to be enrolled into private schools where there are far smaller class sizes and much better facilities. This can make an incredible difference to their educational progress and their future in general; however, it is expensive.
You can have a profound impact on the life of a disadvantaged young child from Geita. When you sponsor a GRUCSO supported child through private school, you help us to provide: tuition fees; educational materials such as uniforms, shoes, books and stationery; food at school; boarding costs; bus fare to and from school; as well health insurance.
If you sponsor a GRUCSO child your money does not go into the central funds, it is used to sponsor a specific child that we have identified as having great potential. We will send you regular updates on their progress and attainment throughout their school career.
For $1395 (Tsh 3,550,000) per year you can sponsor a child to enable them to realise their potential for better future and successful and happy life. This can be broken down in details as shown below.
Allowing our academically gifted students access to the private sector will be a life changing opportunity but we are well aware that this is a very large amount of money. If you are only able to offer to cover 25% or 50% of the sponsorship then we will pair you with other sponsors to make up the whole amount.
- $904 (Tsh 2,300,000) annual school fees
- $440 (Tsh 1,120,000) supplementary fees:
- Hostel / boarding accommodation
- Uniform: 1 School sweater/jumper, 2 shirts, 2 trousers, 2 pairs of socks, 1 necktie, 1 set of sports wear
- Health insurance
- Food
- $51 (Tsh 130,000) additional costs:
- Joining interview fee only if the child is joining from other school $10 (Tsh 30,000)
- Travel to and from school during the holidays $8 (Tsh 20,000)
- Shoes $10 (Tsh 30,000)
- Pocket Money $20 (Tsh 50,000)
Note that the school and supplementary fees are paid in four unequal instalments so, although it will be possible to spread the cost of the sponsorship throughout the year, we need to make sure that we can pay the school the following amounts to prevent the child being removed from classes:
- January $656 (Tsh 1,640,000)
- March $253 (Tsh 632,500)
- July $355 (Tsh 887,500)
- September $131 (Tsh 327,500)
Material Donations
Physical items such as bicycles, clothes, shoes, reading books, backpacks and stationery supplies are most welcome. These can be sent to our Head Office in Geita or if you are in different location within Tanzania or abroad please email or call our chairperson, Mr Yusuph, or call the office assistant.
Youth Sponsorship for vocational training
GRUCSO is dedicated to transform the lives of youth through government / state vocational training colleges. This is an opportunity for the youth who couldn’t have access to secondary education or finish their secondary education because of various circumstances.
For $820 (Tsh 2,085,894) you can help us to provide tuition fees, accommodation, practical training or field training, books, stationery, uniforms, shoes and transport to and from the college.
As with tuition fee sponsorsip it is also possible to sponsor a portion (25% or 50%) of a youth training course.
